Swiss officials arrested seven officials from FIFA, the governing body of international soccer, early Wednesday morning US time at their hotel in Zurich.
- The arrests were made at the request of the US attorney for the Eastern District of New York, who wants them in connection with a bribery investigation.
- Hours after the arrests, the Swiss Office of the Attorney General opened a second, unrelated investigation concerning the bidding process for the 2018 Russia World Cup and the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
