On Thursday, a Pakistani court upheld the death sentence of Aasia Noreen, better known as Asia Bibi, a Christian woman convicted of violating the country’s anti-blasphemy law.
Her neighbors had accused her of making derogatory comments about Islam after they objected to drinking from a bucket of water that she (a non-Muslim) had touched.
Her case drew headlines in 2011 after two Pakistani politicians who supporter her, and spoke out against the anti-blasphemy law were assassinated. The judge who convicted one of the assassins for murder was also forced to flee the country. Read the entire story.
